Large Timbertank potable water reservoir in Whitianga

Reservoirs and
large-scale storage

First developed for domestic potable water in the early 1970s, Timbertanks now provide durable, cost-effective storage for councils, utilities, industry, farms, and private properties across New Zealand. Ongoing development in manufacturing and construction has enabled larger reservoirs while preserving the speed, flexibility, and sustainability of on-site timber construction.

Reservoir capacities range from 100 m³ to 6,000 m³, with design-build solutions tailored to site access, footprint, and operating conditions. They are ideal for potable water storage projects that need a system that is expandable, moveable, and easy to service, as demonstrated by the 3,000 m³ reservoir delivered in Whitianga.

Timber barrel

Treated radiata pine staves contained by hot-dipped galvanized steel cables.

Liner system

Four synthetic liner options housed within a polyethylene preliner for a sealed interior.

Structural roof

Engineered timber roofing that stabilizes the structure and protects water from UV exposure.

Domestic water storage
that fits the property

Timbertanks are ideal for rainwater harvesting, holiday homes without municipal supply, and urban sites needing an economical supplementary water source. Their natural timber finish sits comfortably in established landscaping and can be stained to suit the setting.

Package delivery makes them especially practical for difficult access conditions. Tanks can pass through most gateways and be installed in mature gardens, tight urban backyards, or sites without direct road access.

Firefighting reservoirs
for constrained sites

Fire protection systems often require significant water volumes on sites that are already heavily developed. The design flexibility of a Timbertank reservoir, combined with efficient on-site construction, allows that firefighting reservoir to be placed where conventional systems struggle.

Depending on available area and headroom, tanks can be configured as tall narrow barrels, wide low-profile forms, or flat-roofed reservoirs located under mezzanines, inside buildings, or in basement spaces.
